FBJJAZ Team Workshop and Youth Promotions:                                  January 17th, 2015

The first monthly Flavio Behring Jiu-jitsu AZ Team Building Workshop was well attended and incredibly beneficial to all of the FBJJAZ team members.  With Students and instructors in attendance from Warrior’s Guild Martial Arts, Like Minded Jiu-Jitsu, Game-Over Jiu-Jitsu and Fluid Martial Arts, students and instructors were able to learn from one another and grow together.  The goal of our workshops is to continue to provide students with the opportunity to come together on a monthly basis to help everyone attain excellence on the mat while raising money to put back into the FBJJAZ Organization.

Warrior’s Guild Youth Promotions

Mr. Jerry Porter brought a number of his youth students up to Fluid Martial Arts to be promoted to their next rank.   Professor Steve Villa of Warrior’s Guild oversaw the promotions and gave the students some excellent words of wisdom to help motivate them to keep training.  Once the promotions were finished, Warrior’s Guild and Fluid Martial Arts Academy’s students worked and drilled together learning how to properly execute the triangle from guard.

Workshop Topics

Each Instructor spent 30 minutes teaching a particular segment, allowing students to get almost 3 hours of additional training in.  Mr. Porter taught techniques from Head and Arm Position, Mr. Burns taught opening and passing the closed guard.  Coach Chuck Raybourn taught guard retention drills and guard re-establishment techniques.  Professor Darrell Taylor taught an excellent guard pass to lapel choke and Professor Steve Villa taught a very detailed variation of the mounted cross body arm lock.  Students were given time to drill each technique as well as time towards the end ask questions as needed.  By the end of the workshop, FBJJAZ students had plenty of techniques to take back to their academies and drill.

Next Workshop

By coming together as a team on a frequent basis, FBJJAZ students have the opportunity to learn variations on techniques from instructors with slightly different perspectives.  A special thank you goes out to all of Flavio Behring Jiu-Jitsu Arizona instructors and students that made our first workshop of 2015 such a success.  Our next workshop is scheduled Saturday, February 14th, 2015 at 12:00pm.  Hope to see you all there.
